You don’t have to use “group” if you don’t want to.
The “group” option is an extra category, which you can set to almost any purpose (usually something specific to your industry or situation). It is used as a way of grouping and sorting assets, to suit your own needs.
For the sake of example, you might want to use it to identify assets which are:
- Parts of a larger asset. For example, a number of machines joined together in a production line. You could create groups such as “Line 1”, “Line 2”, etc.
- Powered in a specific way. For example, “Petrol”, “Diesel”, “Electric”.
- Governed by a specific department within your company, for example, “Dept 1”, “Dept 2”.
Note – each asset can only belong to one “group”.
To create a “group”. Click on ‘Categories’ / ‘Groups’ / ‘Add New’.
To assign an asset to a Group. First, click on ‘Assets’ / ‘View Assets’. Then find the asset you want, and click on the ‘Edit’ button for that asset. Select the ‘group’ you want to assign to this asset, from the ‘Group’ dropdown menu. Repeat this process for each asset you want to assign to that group.
Incidentally, you can also assign groups via the ‘Asset Details’ page – either click “Enable Editing”, or “Edit Full Details”, then assign your group from there.
